Its main PA protection is actually the power supply, which has a fast-acting circuit breaker that will disable the rig should the PA try to draw excessive current. HF Tranceiver 160 - 10 meters SSB and CW has built in keyer and all filters. Congrats, good find I had a Triton-IV and be careful using it with other than the Ten Tec power supply. #TEN TEC TRITON IV IMAGES SERIAL NUMBER#
The final C-21 is the latest serial number I’ve seen and has many factory refinements. Once this C-21 is complete, I’ll only have one more to restore and my goal of one C-21 per band will be complete. Let me know if you’ll part with it via email and we can work out a $ deal. The last PTO I harvested from an Argosy had redesigned parts that look far more robust. I’ve been reluctant to let this “secret” out, but they are interchangeable. What I really need is the unicorn PTO rebuild kit, but I’d settle for an Argosy or other project ten-tec radio with an intact PTO. The shaft is very worn where the ball bearings ride. I’ll remove them, ugh, so much work, but likely won’t fix the issue, only make it stiffer to turn. Type: Amateur HF transceiver: Frequency range: 10-80 m: Mode: SSB/CW: RF Power output: 50 W: Receiver system: Sensitivity: Selectivity: Image rejection: Voltage: 12-14 VDC: Current drain: RX: 500 mA TX: Max 9 A: Impedance: 50 ohms / SO-239: Dimensions (WHD): 343114330 mm (13.54.513') Weight: 5.44 Kg (12 lbs) Manufactured. It was not turning very easily after assembly so I added another spacer washer at the back. I just rebuilt a PTO that was frozen and now it is slipping. I'll send you a copy of TT's instructions and help you through the job. Never done it before? Contact me off-list. So a new, calibrated, part of the dial string assembly was needed.
That was why the adjustment cam was set to minimal effect. It's not that difficult to do the job right. (You can see the string wrapped around a couple of pulleys and going over the S meter in the picture of the S meter LED’s). The oil just leached everywhere, like oil will do. It did not look like the previous owner had "drowned" the thing in oil. The oil had also spread itself around the inside of the PTO enclosure. What a mess! I spent hours disassembling and cleaning that radio to get rid of that oil. I could smell the oil when I took the radio out of the shipping box. Dust had begun sticking to the oil, creating a kind of "oily mud" in some spots. There was a thin sheen of oil on the top and bottom of the chassis, on the front sub-panel, on nearby wiring, etc. Over time, the oil leached all over inside the radio.

A previous owner had used some kind of light oil to free up the stuck PTO. One of the seven Century 21s that I restored in 2020 had been "treated" that way. Let me offer a real-life example of why this is a bad idea. I am not a fan of trying to "oil up" a Ten Tec PTO to avoid properly servicing it.
